LAUGH WITH ME, CRY WITH ME.......page 53.... THEN IT HAPPENED!! there were people still gathered around us asking all sorts of questions and wanting hand written business cards when out of the blue a lady walked up to Merry and I and asked when our next show was. we explained to her that we were done for the day. she sighed then said in a loud voice, MY NAME IS CATHY AND I AM A PRODUCER FOR PBS TELEVISION OUT OF BUNKER HILL KANSAS. WE WANT TO FILM YOU FOR OUR STATION. IS THERE ANY WAY WE COULD GET YOU TO PUT ON 1 MORE SHOW? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE??? she had those puppy dog eyes going on and Merry leaned over to her and said we would discuss it. I asked how she had heard about our show and her reply was its all over the park and rumor has it its the best show on the grounds. Our film crew could not make it over to this tent till this afternoon as our schedule has been booked, she said. she had come over for our early show to see what everyone was buzzing about. she begged with us and i explained to her that the tent entertainment schedule was full for the rest of day and we didnt even have a spot we could fit in if we decided to do another show. she suggested that we move our equipment and come over in front of the TV stations outside display. we could do our show right there and they really wanted to film us. Merry told her we would get back to her in 30 minutes. the entire time Cathy was talking to us inside the tent, people were hollering--do another one! we would come and be your audience. We finally exited the tent and headed towards the bathroom for some sister time to discuss our dilemma. on our way there, people would shout out hellos and new us by name--Pearl and Urlean. what the hell were we going to do?? First of all, I was hoarse from two days of talking like Urlean, not to mention lack of sleep. we finally stopped outside the bathrooms and Merry took my hands and said what do you want to do sis? she asked if i had one more show somewhere deep inside me and I knew we could not pass up this opportunity. I shook my head yes and we decided to move the equipment to their display. we were on our way back to the PBS booth when the tent boss from the NWK tent came running after us. she said all the entertainers for our tent had gotten together and decided to give up some of their time to create a spot for us. they decided that NWK tent needed the exposer and we had been the blessing that had brought people in. WE WERE SO TOUCHED!! none of these people knew us. they had no idea that this was our first away from home gig. SOOOOO we accepted the offer and the tent boss ran off towards the PBS booth to give Cathy the news. We had 1 hour to rest up and then show time. We headed out the main gate to have a smoke. you could cut a knife with the silence between us. i think it was because we were nervous that we would not be good enough. i was still trying to figure out what Cathy and the rest of our followers had seen in us. Merry broke the silence and said, well now, what do you think of that Urlean? we is gonna be on tv. whood a thunk it! and they say that the camera adds 10 lbs but in your case Urlean, it could add 20 and no one would know the difference. we broke out into histerics. the nerves were gone and it was time to march into the tent and give them one hell of a show. Our tent was the farthest from the main gate. We started the long walk back across the park. then i heard it! It was the sound of a gator and out of nowhere our gator man appeared and said, hey ladies can i give you a ride back to your tent? i would not want you to be late for your show. How the hell did he know we were putting on another show? Pearl climbed into the front and i stood in the back. as we rounded the last turn heading to the tent, Pearl grabbed my arm and pointed. OMG--there must have been 200 to 300 people waiting to get in. I bet the St. Francis Popcorn lady had to call in more then just 5 recrutes!! as soon as the crowd saw us, they began to cheer. continued on page 54.........LOVE TO ALL!!
