LCCI “Export Management Course” concludes. Seven-day Program “Certificate in Export Management” of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry Monday concluded successfully. The program provided comprehensive training modules to as many as 120 people from different walks of life. The basic objective of the LCCI initiative was to equip young entrepreneurs and potential export managers with state-of-the-art exporting skills. The experts including LCCI President Ijaz A. Mumtaz, former President Shahid Hassan Sheikh, Unit Head of Trade Finance, RBG, North MCB Naveed Alam, Chief Manager State Bank of Pakistan Huma Mehmood Bukhari, Manager Corporate Development, the TAQ Organization Faquir Ullah Sabir, CEO Farhan Associates Farhan Shehzad and Chief Executive AMC Solutions Pakistan Pervaiz Malik addressed different sessions of the LCCI Export Management Program. Presentations focused on key factors belonging to exports were major part of the training. The experts threw light on significance of exports for national economy, governing the rules & regulations, methods of settlement in international trade, export documentation and procedures, SBP regulations for export, export re-financing schemes, international trade & transport, land, air and sea transportation, obtaining NTN etc. They also guided the participants on how to access foreign markets, how to find buyers for their products. The closing ceremony was held under the auspices of the LCCI President Ijaz A. Mumtaz while Executive Committee Members were also present on the occasion. Speaking at the concluding ceremony, LCCI President Ijaz A. Mumtaz said that the LCCI “Certificate in Export Management” program had a caliber of understanding the depth of a foreign exchange and international trade laws. He said that coordinators of the program Furqan Hanif, Furqan Munir and Murad Khan Jadoon deserves appreciation for their untiring efforts. He said that our national export does not match with huge potential therefore, young entrepreneurs have to come forward and demonstrate their abilities to give a jumpstart to the exports. Ijaz A Mumtaz said that the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry felt the need of introducing this course keeping in view the ongoing stagnation in total exports of Pakistan. From 2011 to 2013, our exports earnings were recorded as USD 25.3 billion, USD 24.6 billion and USD 25.1 billion respectively. He said that although, there were many factors including energy crisis, high cost of business, low level of FDI, security issues etc. which did not allow us to enhance the level of exports but at the same time no significant efforts were made to encourage new exporters. LCCI President said that in past, LCCI has been offering such courses on regular basis. He said that second phase of the program will be held in January 2015. He urged the participants to work under a well-thought export strategy based on products marketing. He said that value addition was one of the best tools to earn huge foreign exchange and this target could be achieved through investment in technology, skill enhancment and research and development. LCCI president urged the young entrepreneurs to focus on trade with the regional countries that was more efficient in terms of cost and logistics. He said that Pakistan occupies a strategic location and has ability to act as a major player in transforming the region into a trade and manufacturing hub. The LCCI President said that the promotion of regional trade also offers promising benefits to the industry as it would enable it to source raw materials from the region that would ultimately reduce cost of production and create opportunities to improve economy of scales by having easy access to neighbouring markets on the other hand. He said said, “Pakistan has lost momentum but it has ability to bounce back as it has over 50 per cent of young population, 12 per cent of known global natural resources, and all prerequisites to become a developed nation. Former LCCI President Shahid Hassan Sheikh stressed the need for trust building between employers & employees and business entities. He also urged the Pakistan businessmen to highlight soft image of the country to get their due share in the international market. Participants of the program indicated that the program’s greatest impact had been on their know how and capacity so they can be instrumental in the enhancement of the Pakistan’s exports.
