LEADERSHIP CAMP AT CAL U: A leadership camp for children in grades 2-12 will be held at California University of PA from August 5-9, 2013. The camp focuses on the assessment and building of social skills programming for learners that include those with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Camp activities will run from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. The leadership camp is based on Dr. Stephen Covey’s 7-Habits of Highly Effective Students, and children will learn how to become an inspired and confident leader. It is also based on Scott Bellini’s Five Step Model of Building Social Relationships. In the mornings, campers will meet with their counselors, have a daily habit lesson and begin to work on their targeted social goal. The campers will then participate in physical fitness activities that include swimming and gym activities. The rest of each day will be devoted to working on social interactions skills while building technology designs, music, art and much more. The camp is under the direction of Mary Ann Rocco, an Instructor from the Early, Middle and Special Education Department. Cal U graduates students from the ASD program and ESP 743: Navigating the Social World: Autism Class will serve as camp counselors. For registration information, please contact Mary Ann Rocco at [email protected].
