LESSONS TO LEARN FROM THE “NO” VOTERS When I arrived in - TopicsExpress

LESSONS TO LEARN FROM THE “NO” VOTERS When I arrived in Scotland in 2004 I found the country poor, apathetic, living under a “will do tomorrow” (Inch Allah), submissive and resigned. When the campaign for independence came, I thought people would “take the bull by the horns” and would understand the ins and outs of what meant to be self-sufficient without a crown, a God, or a ruler from another part of the isle. I was mistaken. Scottish people are afraid of being FREE and to work more for their liberty. Liberty of thinking, liberty of acting, liberty of implementing what THEY, together with a real democratic parliament, would have been able to achieve. Not enough information, said a lot of people. What about people’s curiosity to search for data, advice, enlightenment or visualisation? (The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination [Albert Einstein]). All the Wallace, Burns and Bruce must be turning in their graves… The lessons of history have not been taken seriously, and the chronicle of facts and figures will be given to Greek calendars. Now, what are we going to see? Scotland, as the rest of the UK, will be far back on the worldwide scale for health, well-being, high technology (engineering and environment), salaries and spending power because of the reduction of powers and increased cuts in the budget. One of the lessons is, for me, you can take a horse to water, but you cannot make it drink! The other one it that the yesterday’s vote illustrates the image of Scotland by Westminster being “too poor, too wee and too stupid”!
