LET US HIJACK THE GOVERNMENT 2: The way forward. I thank those who variously inboxed me asking for how to join the movement of #hijackthegovernment. Let us set our focus on 2019 elections because the next election will be too close to make any meaningful impact. However, we can test run our ultimate activities with the forthcoming general election in 2015 or even the local election within this year in order to get some sort of practicality to the challenges that may be faced hereafter! Our plan will be simple. Firstly, we will form a pressure group and mobilize candidates to partake in the electioneering process. These candidates may come from any political party that will NOT compromise our ideology which will be clearly articulated and directed at certain pre defined policies like job creation, effective education, community development etc. It is important that the group NOT adopt any particular party so that it will not be considered partisan! Secondly, the pressure group will set up a screening committee to check each aspirant’s antecedent and pedigree before supporting their political aspiration. The screening Committee will be made up of non-partisan and highly regarded personalities like oniovo Steve Stephen K. Dieseruvwe, oniovo Prof Tosan Blessing, oniovo Prof Tony Adah, omiregua Prof Otitigbe Obadiah Oghoerore Alegbe etc. Thereafter, the group will mobilize to raise funds both on ground and through the internet which will be used to sponsor / support the selected candidates because ‘he who pays the piper, must dictate the tune’! Thirdly, the selected aspirants will be compelled to commit to represent and pursue these policies if elected. How? They will have to sign a pre-office resignation letter prior to contesting for any electoral position that should they fail to execute these policies at a pre-defined timeline when elected, the resignation letter becomes effective! A committee, vast in such legality, will be saddled with this task! Importantly above, the political aspirants MUST be compelled to provide the electorate with achievable manifestoes according to which they will be evaluated within a timeline. You will agree with me that presently, vast majority of our politicians NEVER set policy objectives before they get elected into office. Unlike in western world where political aspirant will clearly state their benchmark such as ‘I will create 5000 jobs, build a central park etc’ before assuming office. Such that at the end of their tenure, the electorate can then point to these promises as either achievements or failures. In urhoboland and as mostly elsewhere in Nigeria, the governors will list projects such as certain schools as being built or renovated by their administration, the house of assembly members will point to the same project as theirs, the state agencies like DESOPADEC (and even federal agencies too) will lay claim to yet the same projects. It is such an elaborate fraud! Lastly, the group members which hopefully, will come from every community in urhoboland, will mobilize their local communities and sensitize the people about the objectives of the group and the need to vote for the selected representatives. These modalities can be fine tuned to achieve the set objectives as desired. Misiaguarioo.
