LETTER TO MY BRAIN With utmost ingenuity You take me from the mental doldrums You synthesise skillfully-woven reactions to fundamental conundrums You bid to set me free From the very labyrinths of being You labour to provide answers To the questions that sting Anchored in the hard box atop my physical structure I find it mysterious how you handle it all Piles of philosophy books Sheets of solved mathematical problems Phonics of new words Details of lengthy conversations Does your capacity ever get full? My hands occasionally rest from blending poetry Yet you march on with intellectual zealotry My feet at night become free from wandering about Yet such allowances you always flout My viscera sometimes enjoy cut-downs of their daily stints Yet you keep revving every instant Coordinating my thoughts, feelings and actions by the day Shaping them into lucid dreams by the night I fail to understand How the organic stuff that makes you up Yield terabytes of immaterial Some attribute your unfathomability To an intelligent Super-Being called many a name Some dare think that logic is rather lame So they posit evolutionary dexterity As explanatory for your complexity That is rather irrelevant in my context For am just bewildered by your nature Your subtotal incomprehensibility Leaves in me a gaping arperture No wonder you’re my body’s most important organ By Walter Francisco Moyo
