LETTER TO MY SPEAKER:SAIFULLAHI H. ON THE QUESTION OF SECESSION (DISINTEGRATION OF NIGERIA) March 29,2014 Hi there,My Speaker, Mark my words,anyone who plans or works for the break-up...disunity of a particular entity that naturally or artificially happens to be one for a period of time...needs their brains to be examined! Tell them,if youre fortunately not one of them,that they have some screws lose in their heads. Such beings should be handed over to a psychiatrist...even there,they may end in the nut house. Guess what? If you wake up one day and find that your father married a second or even a third wife;if you wake up someday to find that you are many in your own house;if you wake up someday and find that the religion you practice isnt practiced by others in your whereabouts;if you realize that the party, club or organization you belong to,isnt patronized by your neighbors,co-workers or even friends;look!if you discover that the dress you wear,or the food you call favorite....or the very Being you call Allah (which others prefer to call Jehovah,Jesus, Ubangiji, Olorun, Chineke, among several countless other terms) is not even believed to be there at all...fellow historian,I urge you to tolerate;be civilized and patient enough to excuse them...deceive your intellectual self into ignoring,if not totally forgetting that questionable question called DIFFERENCE! (For more about DIFFERENCE,read my recent work titled Concerning The Question Of Difference) DARE NOT EVEN THINK,LET ALONE PLOT OR PLAN FOR THE ELIMINATION OF SUCH DIFFERENCES,My Speaker...DARE NOT CALL FOR OR EVEN WORK FOR THE BREAK-UP OF THAT FAMILY SO THE OTHER WIFE GETS DIVORCED;SO THAT THE OTHER RELIGION GETS DISPLACED,ITS WORSHIP CENTERS DESTROYED...OR,SO THAT THE AETHEISTS IN YOUR LOCALITY GET DISPLACED THROUGH GENOCIDE OR RELATED SATANIC ACT OF INTOLERANCE... Guess what? Based on my little,but guided experience,and backed by the following historical facts you, too,do know,it is better and much safer for you to tolerate,thatll do you good in ways you never thought possible. First,do you remember the then Western and Eastern Germany? Those countries used to be one since the remarkable efforts of Otto Von Bismarck,the then German Chancellor who saw it right for the scattered principalities of Germany to be united. And, with that,Germany began its remarkable steps to development...you can however recall that,the 1840 Germany could not be compared to the 1807 North(of present day Nigeria). History tells of the remarkable Sokoto Caliphate that emerged and spanned to engulf best part of the so-called North up to certain Yoruba areas, way before the disturbing advent of Europeans... Yet, Germany had to wait until the said year above for the start of its serious progress. Unfortunately however,the 1945 end of World War II dragged the then bi-polar power (the USA and the USSR) into the questionable Cold War. The Cold War went on up to 1991 when M. Gorbachev of Russia contributed to the destruction of the USSR,thereby leading to the questionable end of the Cold War. Meanwhile,My Speaker can recall how the Berlin Wall was erected. This Wall separated Germany into East and West for about 28 straight years. After the World War II,and with the suicidal end of Adolf Hitler,his Germany was occupied by the Big Four: America,France,Britain and Russia. The first three cunningly merged their potions together and then called on Russia to let her part be joined up,too,but she out-rightly rejected the idea...to cut the long fact short,this subsequently led to the emergence of Eastern and Western Germanies. Realizing,the bad side of such move however,the movers of European politics destroyed the Berlin Wall and even re-united Germany as a single country,because such division would never be allowed to exist in Europe. Today Germany is the present strongest economy in Europe. Why? The answer is in UNITY,My Saifullahi! Its basic,once you happen to be free from internal threats,external ones would no longer seem indestructive...but,the moment you have internal threats within,then you might as well prepare for the unfortunate SORRY STORY. Its a disgusting,disappointing and disturbing fact that,the so-called First World (up to this very 21st century)contributes only for the unity and strength of Europe(with the exception of Russia) and America,but care not to do so in the so-called Third World. In fact,imperialist and capitalistic Europe was,is and will always be there,encouraging for the secession or break-up of the Third World...so long as such move would be bankable to the West and America,and to the detriment of Russia. By the way,I hope My Speaker is not one of those who believe that the Cold War has really ended with the 1991 destruction of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic. The questionable recent case of Edward Snowden(that American intelligent officer whom we have (up to today) been deceived into believing that he has defected to the Communist Block for protection. Theres also the current conflict in Ukraine are food for thoughts for your intellectual mind. Anyway,heres a brief list of countries that used to be ONE,but later got separated due to INTOLERANCE,supported by capitalist West and political movers (on their pay-roll). These countries are there,secretly REGRETING,and physically SUFFERING for that unfortunate act: SECESSION,break-up... In fact,these countries are now there,looking and ready for the slightest encouragement to wage full war against the other with whom they used to be one. -India and Pakistan (August 14 and 15,1947) -South Korea and North Korea (August 15,1948) -Ethiopia and Eritrea (after a 30-year war: May 24,1991) ,and unfortunately very recently -Sudan and South Sudan (After another several years of avoidable war: January 9,2011) BRIEF ABOUT SECESSION IN NIGERIA MAJOR ISAAC BORO(1938-1968) Major Isaac Boro declared the Niger Delta a Republic,leading to a twelve day rebellion that was later resolved. COL. ODUMEGWU OJUKWU(1933-2011) Col. Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu led to the secession and emergence of the Republic of Biafra leading to an unfortunate 30 month civil war.. GENERAL MURTALA R. MUHAMMAD (November 8, 1938–February 13, 1976) General Murtala Ramat Muhammads coup is said to have had,in its agenda,a plan to make the North an independent country, but having been advised by national and international diplomats,Murtala wisely dropped the idea. OODUA PEOPLE CONGRESS (1997) The Oodua People Congress (also known as the Oodua Liberation Movement (OLM) or the Revolutionary Council of Nigeria (RCN) ),formed in 1997,advocates for the secession of the Yoruba people. BOKO HARAM(2002) Coupled with the above,My Speaker you are very much aware of the more aggressive, controversial and questionable Boko Haram (which we are made to believe that it was established by Muhammad Yusuf (January 29,1970 – July 30, 2009) in the North-East. Anyway,the Boko Haramist are said to be calling for the establishment of an Islamic state of Nigeria. Now,looking at the above fact,you realize the presence of a throttling threat that could break Nigeria to an unmendable pieces. Yet,the dangerous fact is this,if the Biafrans gain their independence,do they think that they would be able to maintain all their existing tribes? The Biafran region has more tribes than just the Igbos and the Ijaws. What about the Yorubas? They,too,have parts that may not wish to support secession. Now,the North! Countless number of tribes... practicing not just Islam or Christianity,but Izala,Shia,Qadiriyya, Tijjaniyya...among several other Islamic sects;and also Catholic,Protestants, Methodists,and Anglican,among other Christian sects...are all there! DO YOU THINK IT POSSIBLE FOR THESE VARIED GROUPS TO TOLERATE BEING CONTROLLED BY OTHERS WHEN THE STRONG WIND OF SECESSION IS UP,BLOWING AND ENCOURAGING FOR MORE INDEPENDENT ENTITIES TO EMERGE? By the way,you ask of my opinion in respect to the break-up of Nigeria. Well,as for Bakano,I do not encourage it...I hate the very question itself,knowing for sure that secession will only lead to yet other series of secessions,and then others,non-stop,I tell you...followed by unnecessary sufferings of poor Nigerians. So,endeavor to support the weakened unity of not just Nigeria,but any other country on Earth. Those who advocate for secession in Nigeria must understand that therere several others feeling subjected elsewhere,too. Even in America,theres the existence of this question of secession,that is why re-integration remains central to their national policy,knowing break-up would be dangerous for the Union,and the world at large. Nigeria cannot be broken into two pieces only,peacefully or militarily. If they are inhumanely foolish to break it into two pieces,they would live to regret to the day they die. But,there would be no solution to their so-called problems. The peace and progress,development and the like they look for would never be achieved. Nigeria must be left alone,intact,as a single indivisible entity to the day the entire earth gets wrapped up. This Nigeria is Gods special making. The thoughtful ones know of the gospel truth. Nigerias disintegration will teach the 21st century society learnable unforgettable lessons...West Africa would never be the same again. More and more countries would disintegrate. This disintegration would not only be political,but tribal and religious. More civil wars and warfare would break out. By the way,look at Sudan and South Sudan, they are still at logger heads on the oil question. Look at the two conflicting Koreas, theyre still at it. Look at Ethiopia and Eritrea,theres trouble there,too. And,so also between India and Pakistan! My Speaker,the whole Africa would be affected if Nigeria disintegrates. The spread of the infection would escalate to other continents. The entire world would shake to certain pieces that would dent the present face and contents of the planet...but the vulturistic,tarantulistic,imperialists and capitalists might benefit from it all...and the still breathing Communists Block would come up again...if care is not taken,a move to square A would be taken...and that would speed up the world to its destined end...but,reason to realize! YOU GOT TO PROVIDE EVEN THE LEAST POSSIBLE SOLACE FOR THE UNNECESSARILY STILL SUFFERING HUMANITY! THIS,IS A WORTH RESPONDING RESPONSIBILITY,MY SPEAKER. BUT WHATS YOUR TAKE ON THAT,MY SPEAKER?
