LGBTQ people must remember that no matter where you live there are people who are filled with hate and irrational fear, homophobia. I am thankful no one was killed. We must also remember that it is unlikely this crime will be classified as a Federal Hate Crime. The legislation uses the Commerce Clause of the U.S. Constitution and unless a State line was crossed in some way the FBI does not have jurisdiction to prosecute this as a Hate Crime. We MUST continue to push for Alabama to adopt a comprehensive State Hate Crime law.
