LIFESTYLE - Play Review: The Great Dictatorship ITS NOT always that one gets to watch a high school production of a play that is almost on par in terms of quality with those that are professionally produced. Sporting an International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) all-student cast ranging from age 16-18, The Great Dictatorship was jointly written by the students and Timothy Howe, their teacher and director. The play is less of a story than it is a commentary on oppression in general. It uses real words spoken by infamous dictators of the past in various ways, all to stir up emotions in us and remind us that no matter where we live, we have all experienced oppression in some form or another at some point in our lives. Accompanied by music composed by Nick Choo, winner of multiple Boh Cameronian Arts Awards for his compositions, The Great Dictatorship features the talented voice of its lead actress, Nina Faud, whose performance was nothing short of spectacular. With her all-encompassing stage presence, Nina truly captivated audiences as Lady Maleka with her powerful speeches and musical solos, although the sound system did not do her voice justice at all.
