LILITH is doing much better today. She still didnt want to eat but I did get her to eat some cheese. She wasnt happy when I had to wash her upper tail and around the tail and around her little anus with hydrogen peroxide this morning...or the front of her leg....I wasnt happy about it either. then we sprayed that expensive antibiotic spray from the vet...2 squirts in each region. It didnt sting her as badly today as Saturday morning. She came out from under the bed last night after I turned off the lights and slept with me. She sat on my lap all the way home from the cabin. But now she wont come out...I think she knows it is time for her SPRAY. Blues ear is healing. I put more neosporin on it after cleaning it up again. YOu havent lived till youve had to stop the bleeding in a Brittanys ear. I had blood all over myself and up my arms and Blue was covered with blood from his head to his toes on the front and his shoulders were red....and the porch was covered. This was a 1/4th inch tear that was NOT deep. This is pretty common with bird dogs...but I am glad I keep a special first aid kit for the dogs at the cabin. WHAT a weekend. This time, I spent more time with my dogs and my thoughts....and cooking greens made me think of my Great Grandmother Luck and my Mom and Dad....who loved loved loved them and taught me to season them rightly with salt meat and salt and sometimes a very well salted ham hock......... And painting just a little bit...just a little....because that is the ultimate calm.... Claude left at 7 a.m. to go fish and then head to the hunting lodge on the other side of Kosciusko. He and his friends were going to watch the football game...The dogs and I had all day and evening together and we did go for a walk in the woods and I let them go for a swim in the back pond........ Saturday night for dinner. I cooked 8 chicken wing pieces (the Tyson Tequilla Lime seasoned) and some steak fries and had a big bowl of turnip greens. And a big wedge of my cornbread. I ate 3 chicken pieces. A few fries. And a SECOND bowl of turnip/mustard greens. Oh MY it was good. From field to table the same day. Claude and I got up earlytoday (Sunday) and I made PUMPKIN SPICE PANCAKES... I love them. Easy recipe. Had sausages with them. Lots of Community Coffee (I love that stuff). We headed out to the bottoms where the greens are planted while everything was very wet with dew. I love going through the little wooded trails in the early morning and especially when some leaves have fallen and they are a little crunchy to the foot. We cut two more garbage bags of greens for a friend and a friend/neighbor who love them as much as I do. Cleaned up the cabin, cleaned up my studio and headed home. It was a good weekend...except for the worry about my dogs. If I get back to the cabin and can, I will cut more greens for friends....just depends on if I can get there before the first frost. After the frost, the deer get to them...which is why Claude planted them in the first place. We have SO MANY that you cant tell we took any out. NO herbicides. He disks, he tosses seed. That is it.
