LIVE FROM CROSSROADS GARWOOD, NJ THURSDAY OCTOBER 17, 2013 10PM-2AM A special evening of music, featuring some of New Jersey’s finest singer-songwriters. DENNIS YOUNG A multiple instrumentalist, Dennis Young was previously a member of influential New York band Liquid Liquid, in which he played marimba. He has more recently brought his talents to the Ray Bally Band, not only on marimba, but also guitar, e-bow, and atmospherics. Young and Bally also collaborate as an experimental guitar duo. The first Bally-Young album was released in September. As a solo artist, Dennis Young’s most recent release is an acoustic version of his 2006 album Shadow. Stripped of the previous version’s arrangements, original songs such as “Time” and “Mona Lisa” are even more powerfully moving than before. BRAD KLEIMAN Like Dennis Young, Brad Kleiman is a member of the Ray Bally Band (on guitar and background vocals). He is also one-half of the unique rock duo Jackie Puppet (with fellow singer-songwriter-guitarist Jim Williams). As a solo artist, Brad has been described as mercurial, randomly shifting from night to night between singer of stark acoustic ballads and performer of theatrical electric rock. Its anybodys guess! A new 10-song acoustic CD is expected for release this month… maybe... JOE BRAVERMAN Joining Brad Kleiman on saxophone is frequent collaborator “Saxy” Joe Braverman. A familiar presence on the East Coast music scene, Braverman has provided accompaniment for numerous artists of all kinds. Most recently, he has been performing as a member of the always crowd-pleasing Distant Fire. His versatile style encompasses everything from seductive jazz to dissonant avant-garde to good-time rock & roll. Saxy Joe does it all, and he does it best! Crystal! RAY BALLY With two members of his band performing at this show, it’s time for the man himself. Raymond Bally’s music has been described by Time Out New York as “brooding folk-rock with hints of Dylan and downtown punk.” This only hints at Ray’s many talents. As a bandleader, collaborator (with Dennis Young, jazz great Bern Nix, and more), and solo artist, Bally is a force of passion, poetry and rock & roll purity. His albums include Nature of Love and Faker, with a Ray Bally Band EP on the way. Ballys songs range from the beautiful Splendor & Hoax to the jarring Your Body. Also be on the lookout for the fantastic Bally Family Band! JILL CAGNEY Queen of punk folk, Jill Cagney is the composer of such songs as “Bullshit Detector” and “If You Leave Me, I’ll Kill You”. Possessing a humorous and biting stage persona to go along with her intelligently written and musically memorable tunes, Cagney is captivating to say the least. She has toured throughout the United States, performing at various music festivals and opening for such acts as Pat Dinizio of The Smithereens, among others. Her song have been heard on national radio, and her albums (produced by Dresden Dolls producer Jason Rubal) include Sometimes I Tell The Truth and It’s All In How You See Things, plus the recent EP Nerves of Steel. BARRY “BLUES” HOLMES Closing the show is the only guy who can handle the job, New Jersey’s King of the blues, the one and only Barry Blues. Whether solo or with his own bands the Blues Blasters and more recently the BBD Rhythm & Blues Review, as a heartfelt vocalist and guitarist extraordinaire, he easily steals the show every time. A classic songwriter (hometown tribute “A.C.”) and unique interpreter (his “Down By The River” is stunning), Barry Blues turns every show into a joyous celebration of music at its best. JACK SILBERT Hosting the night’s festivities is the extremely entertaining and always well-dressed Jack Silbert. From Hoboken to Garwood, Silbert has people laughing so hard they pee OTHER people’s pants! This Jack of all trades also hosts his own radio show and writes children’s books. They even named the Jack O’Lantern after Jack Silbert because he taught pumpkins how to smile. No one introduces a musical act like Silbert. Usually, no one introduces us at all. So we give thanks for Jack Silbert. Tickets are $5 and they’re worth every penny!
