LIVIN IN THE RAIN Yesterday, I was driving home from work in some of the heaviest rain Ive experienced. Now, Im a pluviophile (rain lover), but driving with water on the road is treacherous. I kept feeling little episodes of hydroplaning and had to really pay close attention to the road. The worst part was the number of drivers who fist tail-gated me, shined their bright lights trying to tell me to get out of the way on a two lane road, and eventually passing me, going way over the speed limit! But once I was relaxed without harassing drivers bothering me, I truly enjoyed the pouring down showers of rain! Did you know that it didnt always rain on earth? And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground. (Genesis 2:5-6 KJV). Until the time of Noah and that great, destructive flood, rain had not fallen from clouds. Then God told Noah, ...and I will cause it to rain upon the earth... (Genesis 7:4 KJV). In the six hundredth year of Noahs life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights. (Genesis 7:11-12 KJV). After the waters of the flood receded, and Noah and his family could once again walk on dry ground, God promised to never again destroy mankind with a flood; the rainbow is our reminder of this promise, Gods sign placed in the sky for all to see. From that time on, rain fell at various seasons, helping the crops grow and produce rich harvests. The former, or first, rain spoken of in the Bible, was the rain that fell soon after the seeds were planted; it allowed the seeds to beak open and germinate, initiating the growth of the crop. Spiritually speaking, the former rain was the day of Pentecost which, like spring rains that help the crops start growing, helped the early church to quickly grow and thrive. The latter rain, in reference to crops, was the rain that fell shortly before the time of harvest. It brought the crop to maturity and once it ended and the fields dried, the crop was ready for harvesting. Again, drawing a spiritual parallel, the final rain will be a time just before Jesus returns, a time of reformation and turning back to God! Just like the last rain that finishes the growing season; the latter rain will occur in the last days when the gospel message will reach the entire world to fulfill prophecy, And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. (Matthew 24:14 KJV). Jesus told His disciples, ...The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth laborers into his harvest. (Matthew 9:37-38 KJV). And shortly thereafter, He sent them on their first missions, in pairs, healing and preaching the gospel. We are commissioned to carry on that mission... Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:. (Matthew 28:19 KJV). Just imagine when we get to see the results of the seeds we plant during our lifetime! That harvest, when Jesus returns for the faithful, will be a glorious event. My Jeanne
