LMS SUNSHINE COAST NEWS Here is some news to keep you all apprised of what is going on with LMS Sunshine Coast this summer season. GROUNDS At present, all games this season will be played at either the Ballinger Park Sports Complex (Ballinger Road, Buderim) or Kawana Waters State College (340 Nicklin Way, Bokarina or you can otherwise park on Sportsmans Parade, Bokarina). If you are playing at Kawana Waters State College, all players are reminded that the school has a strict “no parking on the oval” policy. If any players know of any other grounds/ovals with synthetic pitches which they think might be good to use for LMS Sunshine Coast games, please let LMS_Ben know (0438167990). CHANGE OF TEAM NAMES North Shore Tavern has changed sponsors and will, going forward, be playing under the team name “Azfirm Conquerors”. The Conquerors are now sponsored by Azfirm Concreting – an entity able to fulfill all your concreting needs and which is associated with LMS Sunshine Coast batting legend, Shane Blake. A link to their website is below. azfirm.au/ Also, the Caloundra Clonkers will, going forward, be playing under the team name “Cherryhattricks”. Apparently the Cherryhattricks weren’t too fond of the previous team name allocated to them by LMS_Ben. NO AUSTRALIA DAY GAMES No games will be played on Australia day. We decided it was too greedy to take you away from your loved ones and your public holiday. LENGTH OF SEASON The main season will run until Sunday, 30 March 2014 and then there will be two weeks of finals fixtures. This will bring the season to a close on Sunday, 13 April 2014 (the weekend before Easter). This means the season will comprise 10 rounds of main fixtures and two rounds of finals fixtures. SEASON FORMAT The competition comprises 18 teams. At this stage, the format of the season will be that there will just be one division. Each team will play 10 other randomly generated teams during the main season. We consider this to be the fairest given that most of the teams are, relatively speaking, of equal standard. However, after rounds 1 and 2 of the competition we will consider whether an alternate format is more appropriate and, if we determine it appropriate, change the format. If this is done, any season points accrued as at the date of the format change will carry over. In terms of how finals fixtures will work for an 18-team competition, the following will apply: - The finals will be broken up into 4 divisions of 4 teams. For example, the teams that placed 1st to 4th will be in the division 1 finals. The teams that placed 5th to 8th will be in the division 2 finals. The teams that placed 9th to 12th will be in the division 3 finals. The teams that placed 13th to 16th will be in the division 4 finals. - For each division finals, there will be two rounds of knockout finals. For example, in the semi-finals for first division the two semi finals games will be 1st v 4th and 2nd v 3rd. The winners of those games will play against each other the following week in the grand final. Similarly, in second division the two semi finals games will be 5th v 8th and 6th v 7th (with the winners of each game playing each other in the division two grand final the following week). A similar arrangement will apply with respect to the third and fourth division finals. - The teams that place 17th and 18th (and who did not make the finals) will play each other in a legendary game known as the “Wooden Spoon Cup” – with the winning side taking the honour of avoiding the wooden spoon. LOST SHOES Remy from Porky Knuck Knuck left his shoes behind at the Maroochydore Cricket Club Ovals last weekend. They are black Nikes with a white sole. If you know where they are, please contact LMS_Ben on 0438167990.
