LOCAL GOVT AND THE BURDEN OF MINIMUM WAGE LG became formally recognised as a 3rd tier of govt.after the 1976 reform.To ensure effective performance,10% was allocated to the LG from the federation account.Today,LG received 20% grant.This is not however enough to cope with its numerous challenges. One of the major challenges facing LG today is payment of salaries and allowances to its personnel.The approval of the new minimum wage has pose a serious challenge to LG.The implication of the approval implies that more fund will be needed to pay personnel.Like states,LGs in Nigeria relied heavily on statutory grants.Many have failed to explore IGR,while others have their efforts stifled by State govts.Faced with this resource constraints,what is the option for LG?
