LOCAL SPANISH STUDENTS SCORE WELL Congratulations to several world language students from Greenbrier High School who attained national recognition for excellent performance on the 2014 National Spanish Examinations. The following students placed 3rd in the state and received a check for $25.00: Lily Jaremski and Anays Ayala. The following students placed 4th in the state: Anthony Agcaoili and Sonia Romero. The following students earned a Gold medal: Anthony Agcaoli and Lily Jaremski . The following students earned a Silver medal: Haidi Al-shabrawey, Anays Ayala, Alyssa Deangelo, Maxwell Diprete, Rachel Doxey, Clare Fox, Dillon Jones, Justin Larson, Joe Neely,Sonia Romero, David Reid, and Phillip Wiggins. The following students earned a Bronze medal: Teffin Benedict, Megan Barrickman, Carolyn Capps, James Clay, Alexandra Doxey, Layla Erb, Sydney Gove, Dianne Klement, Christina Sartain, Davin Seol, Allison Sheeks and Jacob Watts. Along with the following students earning a Honorable mention, meaning they scored higher than the national average: Jordan Battle, Mary Ashley Boykin, Rishab Chawla, Adham Daud, Meagan Delaigle, McKenzie Dewyea, Henry Flink, Victoria Forsmark, States Fort, Rosie Gibbons, Berek Ha,Courtney Howard, Nicholas Kamariotis, Yarilee Martinez, Tiffany McQuaig Espinosa, Rachael Nissen, James Nguyen, , Rebecca Patterson, Levi Rathbone, Maria Rivera, Dayln Smith, Yazmin Thompson, Julian Vaughn, and Vickia White. “Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious,” said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams, “because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with over 154,000 students participating in 2014.” The National Spanish Examinations are administered each year in grades 6 through 12, and are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.
