LOGAN POLICE LIAISON OFFICERS RATED AS THE MOST IMPORTANT IN THE DISTRICT LOGAN’S Police Liaison Officers (PLOs) rate among the most important officers in the district. Logan Cross Cultural Liaison Unit Acting Sergeant Julie Williams said PLOs were employed by the Queensland Police Service to establish and maintain a positive rapport between culturally specific communities and the QPS. She said their role was to promote trust and understanding, assisting the community and the police. “Logan District police has three PLOs of Croatian, Fijian Indian and Aboriginal backgrounds. “Our PLOs have various language and community development skills that play a significant factor when dealing with so many cultures in Logan.” Acting Sgt Williams said the officers also worked in partnership with community leaders and members, local non-government and government service providers and organisations. “Logan District, in partnership with these organisations, implement a number of community projects and information awareness sessions and have successfully implemented the Indigenous and Police Consultative committee and Culturally Linguistically Diverse Community Elders and Leaders Committee and the recent COBY camps focusing on cultural awareness among aboriginal and Pacific Islander young males. “The officers attend a number of community events and information session to assist in breaking down the barriers between police and community.’’ SOURCE couriermail.au/questnews/logan-police-liason-officers-rated-as-the-most-important-in-the-district/story-fni9r0hy-1226671227649
