LOOKING FOR PRESENTERS/VOLUNTEERS Background: Together - TopicsExpress

LOOKING FOR PRESENTERS/VOLUNTEERS Background: Together for Humanity Foundation conducts programmes in schools which breakdown religious and cultural misconceptions and encourage children to focus on our common values and humanity. It also works with disadvantaged, disenfranchised students to build a sense of identity and belonging. Positions Available We are looking for dynamic volunteers and presenters who are great with kids, and have a passion for inter-faith/cultural work, to be part of this non profit, nationally acclaimed organisation. Target audience team and organisation 1. Primary and High School students, aged 8-17 in Sydney, and other NSW location, some of whom have limited positive experience of religious diversity. 2. Teams of Christian, Islamic, Jewish and sometimes Indigenous or agnostic role models who run programs standing together. What does it involve? Facilitators conduct 1 hour workshops and presentations together with 2 or 3 presenters from diverse backgrounds. At times the programs run for a full day. The sessions are with large or small groups of students and have an element of fun and a serious substantial message. Presenters are guided by the team leader, and follow a program outline with a clear focus, and within that structure bring some of their own creativity and passion as well as respond to children’s input. Criteria and Training A. Personally committed to appreciation and cooperation between people of different beliefs/cultures and eager to see greater commitment to action on core values. B. Engaged member of one the faith communities or are of Indigenous heritage with a level of knowledge/participation that is acceptable to the representatives of that community. Agnostics or atheists are also often welcome additions to the team. C. Respectful of others opinions/beliefs and a willingness not to advocate for or persuade others of the merits of ones own beliefs or opinions. (We explain our own perspective without seeking to convince others). D. Being the kind of person young people can relate to. Facilitators would have an engaging personality with a “fun” element and relaxed, sincere but not an earnest manner. Experience in youth work or teaching is an advantage, not a requirement. Training and guidance as needed will be provided. You will: • learn more about Together For Humanity Foundation and the programs that we offer to schools • be trained in inter-faith skills, presentation skills, and our programs • find the program that best suits you and clarify what we can offer each other • and by the end of the day be ready to go into the schools and begin presenting! Next Step Please take some time to consider participating in this very exciting program.
