LORD, I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts. Psalm 119:45 I knew there was something terribly wrong when I walked into her mothers hospital room. Pain and guilt were all over my friends face. Her ninety-two year old mom was barely alive after a massive stroke. She had suffered from several debilitating illnesses the last few years and now her heart and her brain were barely functioning. Her pastors wife had just declared to her that if she just had enough faith she could speak healing to her mother and she could take her home that very day. A man I met at a restaurant told me that he knew God spared him from death from a horrible car accident for a reason. He is just now waiting for God to tell him what that is. Several men over the years told me that God had given them peace about leaving their wives. We are held hostage to so many wrong concepts when we do not know what the Word of God says. Gods Word is the only source of truth that gives us a true perspective on life. Bad theology is a minefield that can destroy lives. My friends mothers life was not subject to her faith and power to heal but to the sovereign care of God. God is not hiding from us His purpose for our lives. He has already said it in His Word: that He created man to image Him and to have fellowship with Him. The spirit that gives anyone peace about something in direct contradiction to Gods Word like leaving your spouse is not the Spirit of God but some demonic spirit. To know and rest on Gods Word is to walk in freedom. No matter what life throws at you. No matter how you feel. Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path (Psalm 119:105). The revelation of God is whole and pulls our lives together. The signposts of God are clear and point out the right road. The life-maps of God are right, showing the way to joy (Psalm 19:7-8, MSG).
