LOUISIANA STATE EXHIBIT MUSEUM TO PRESENT MARLENE YU “PURPLE SWAMP AND NATURE ABSTRACTION” EXHIBITION The Friends of LSEM, Inc. announce the opening of an extraordinary exhibit of the artistry of Marlene Tseng Yu, in celebration of her 77th birthday. The Louisiana State Exhibit Museum will inaugurate a series of exhibits – 7 exhibitions at 7 local institutions – with “Purple Swamp and Nature Abstraction.” The celebration begins when Yu turns 77 mid-September with a reception on Thursday evening, September 25, 2014. Refreshments will be served and the Friends of LSEM invite the public to meet the artist from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. Mrs. Yu will offer prints and posters of her work for sale. During Yu’s visit to Louisiana in June, she planned and designed her 7 shows. For two days, Yu toured the Atchafalaya region of South Louisiana and then down to the gulf. “The area provided inspiration for a special Louisiana series of ‘Purple Swamps and Nature Abstraction’ for the LSEM exhibition which complements our natural history collection,” according to Director Wayne Waddell. Yu is one of the early pioneers in the environmental green movement in the arts. Her love and passion for nature led her in 2001 to establish the Rainforest Art Foundation in New York City, whose mission is to grow the appreciation of nature through art, with other like-minded artists. “LSEM is thrilled to present Louisiana’s natural beauty interpreted by such a distinguished artist,” according to curator Nita Cole. rainforestartfoundation.org Yu’s paintings, ranging from 16 inches to 37 feet long, are inspired by the beauty in nature and the environmental changes caused by humans, such as global warming and the cutting down of the rainforest. She has shown her collection of over 4000 paintings and 35 series of work in 69 solo shows in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. marleneyumuseum.org Marlene Yu’s work, “Purple Swamps and Nature Abstraction,” will be on display through October 31, 2014.
