LOVING THE UNLOVABLE Have you been deeply hurt by the one you love? Is there a wound within that seems to be growing bigger and deeper, in spite of all efforts to forgive and forget? At some point in our lives, ‘people have stepped on our toes’ and caused us more pain than we care to explain. We have all been offended but the most deep-seated wounds always come from those who are closest to us, those whose opinions matter to us. “Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God” (James 1:19-20). “When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent (Proverbs 10:19). “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” (1 Corinthians 13:4-7). Think About It: 1. Have you reacted harshly to a loved one in recent times or unintentionally caused them some pain? Do you owe them a sincere apology? 2. Are you upset within because of some pain a loved one has caused you? Do you owe them forgiveness? Prayer Focus: Single/Married: Today, make the decision to forgive – if you have been wounded. Make the decision to repent – if you have offended (unintentionally or intentionally). Ask the Lord to take away all the pain. Ask Him to grant all whom you may have offended the grace to forgive you and receive the enablement to apologize.
