LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM, HOWEVER NOT ALL BAD NEWS Good morning everyone. We have a low pressure system from the Tasman crossing central NZ throughout the day and this is going to be responsible for bringing some decent rain to the northern most parts of the Canterbury Region. This particular system has lost a lot of its original puff and is also moving through a little faster on current data. We felt it was necessary to put out the warning yesterday as models were consistently showing a significant even for much of North Canterbury and Kaikoura. However, every so often the models will flop somewhat. What does this all mean? Basically the worst of the weather is now from about Cheviot Northwards. Further south, long dry spells are likely with occasional rain or showers. The snow level looks to hang around 700m now but may drop to around 600m in heavier falls. KAIKOURA / NORTH CANTERBURY Temperature High: 16 degrees Overnight Low: 6 degrees Wind Direction: Light Winds, Late S Rainfall: North of Cheviot: 15-25mm South of Cheviot: 5-10mm Details: High cloud this morning with a few spots of morning rain possible at times. Rain becoming more persistent this afternoon north of cheviot and some heavy falls developing into this evening as winds swing around to the SSE. Further south of Cheviot, rain will be more occasional. CHRISTCHURCH + BANKS PENINSULA Temperature High: 16 degrees Overnight Low: 6 degrees Wind Direction: E to SW Rainfall:
