LPA moves closer to GenSan; floods, landslides threaten parts of Vis-Min August 3, 2013 5:36pm After experiencing a downpour that flooded many areas, Metro Manila residents may expect isolated rain showers and thunderstorms Sunday, state weather forecasters said Saturday afternoon. But PAGASA said parts of Eastern Visayas and Mindanao may expect flash floods and landslides in the next 24 hours as a potential cyclone—a low-pressure area—moved closer to General Santos City Saturday afternoon. In its 5 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the LPA was estimated at 250 km east of General Santos City as of 4 p.m. "Eastern Visayas, Caraga and Davao region will experience moderate to occasionally heavy rain showers and thunderstorms which may trigger flash floods and landslides," it said. Also, PAGASA said Palawan, Bicol and the rest of Visayas and Mindanao will have "cloudy skies with light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms." Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will be "partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms," it added. Earlier, PAGASA said there is still a chance the LPA may intensify into a cyclone while inside the Philippine area of responsibility. If it does, it will be codenamed "Kiko." Meanwhile, PAGASA said light to moderate winds from the northeast to northwest will prevail over the entire archipelago and the coastal waters will be slight to moderate.
