LTA starts booking drivers on the phone 07:00 Today. A month after launching the ‘No Mobile Whilst Driving Campaign’, the Land Transport Authority is starting to penalise drivers who do otherwise. LTA spokesperson Iliesa Sokia says they are now onto the enforcement phase of the campaign. Enforcement officers now have the power to book any driver they see using a mobile phone while driving. “Last week, we started enforcing the law, whereby people who are caught using mobiles while driving, there is a fixed penalty of $100 and a maximum penalty of $500.” Sokia adds, while there are currently no laws that govern pedestrians using mobiles while walking or crossing the road, they also need to be careful and cautious. fbc.fj/fiji/18133/lta-starts-booking-drivers-on-the-phone
