LUCASs RECOVERY... Our little man is being a trooper. Hes sleeping right now... up a bit last night with the new side effects of his chemo. Nausea and a bit of vomiting and discomfort. Overall hes doing well but also losing his appetite. Getting lots of rest today.... hoping his little internal armies are preparing for battle for the nights treatment. People: Visitors today were great and Lucas was engaged, sassy, and even got some smiles and giggles in as Brittany, Uncle Egg, and Grampa came up to see him. Brittany brought up the most wonderful package of homemade cards from our staff and LCC family. Uncle Egg teased and joked and told stories of fish camp and bears. Grampa was here to support us and talk and give Lucas that famous blue-eyed grampa twinkle eye that he gives. The Wonderful Matt Jackson whisked me a way for a much needed coffee date off campus. ((THANK YOU!!!)) Good conversation, good coffee, and a glimpse of the world outside the fishbowl was a much needed break. We hear that DeeDee is in town and will be visiting shortly as well. James was here yesterday to visit and gave me the scoop on all of the work stuff Ive been missing and brought cupcakes for us all. Todays Letter of the day.... S S - stands for sssssscents & ssssssickness. If you have either of those ya gotta sssstay back. Smells, even faint ones are making Lucas upset and ssssssick to his ssssstomach. If ya wanna come visit, make sure you sssssssteer clear of perfumed lotions, colognes, and the like. Likewise, if you feel even the ssssssslightest cold coming on - or even if youre not sure if its allergies or cold or whatever... dont be offended but you have to sssssssstay away. I never knew the true meaning of this when dealing with cancer and white cells and counts but this is VERY SERIOUS.... I mean, LIFE and DEATH serious. One fever for this kid could deliver a terrible outcome. Even if you want to see him ssssssssuper bad and think youll wear a mask and refrain from touching him and plan to sit on the other side of the room, youve got it wrong. Ya gotta stay home. Weve got great technology to use these days for visits with facetime and phone calls and videos so lets use those so we can keep this little ssssssssssstinker around... shall we? Thank yous - Again, we are finding that the words thank you are just not enough. We have been well fed, Lucas has received DAYS worth of goodies, toys, books, stickers, markers, and other fun makers. Hannah and Charlie are being pampered and movied, and sleep over-ed and giggled with family and friends while were are here at DeVos and we just can NOT thank you enough. The organization of groceries, chores, food, and such by Cassi and the gofundme by Brian.... gotta love that kid for settin the goal for (insert dr. evil voice here) One miiiielllion dollaaaaars... and all the cards and mail that weve received here and I swear, well never buy another meal for ourselves while were at the hospital due to all of your generous donations. In a nutshell.... THANK YOU... and we mean that.... THANK YOU. Oh and Lucas continues to use his iPad. He LOVES it... it comforts him when he is having trouble and it soothes him when he needs to calm down. With his headphones he gets to go off into Lucas Land whenever he needs to. ((Thank you)) Thank you to the City of Grand Ledge, Cougar Plumbing, Mike Hall, and John Dornbush for the work youve done to our houses terrible plumbing while weve been in here. SO thoughtful and touching. Thank you to EVERYONE whos been taking care of our babies... my beautiful mom, Aunt Di-Di, Uncle Lloyd, and the Amazing Aunt Rita. Mom & Dad - We are holding up as well as we can. Our hard candy shell is getting thicker with each passing hour and while that doesnt exactly make it easier, were getting on just fine. Were learning how to administer shots to boost his bone marrow at home as well as learning to dress the broviac and clean it and care for it at home. Mike is doing well and is certainly still the handsome, shining knight I married. Hes been strong and funny and caring for both Lucas and I. I love that he just aint to proud to do crazy stuff to get a giggle outta Gus. They like to do this naughty little banter I call verbal tug of war... ex: no I dont.... yes you do... no I dont... yes you do.... repeat.... repeat... repeat. We are both handling our days but still in shock and just keep referring to things as the New Normal. Dont worry about us (yet) were doing fine. The SECRET - Those of you who havent seen this... search it... watch it. Use the correct terminology to create life altering results. Using this method and theory, weve started to say things like... - Lucas is starting his recovery. - Lucas is healthy and strong. - We are seeing results. Just jump... meaning... jump in - believe... always. As Greg & Jeffs mom always used to say.... BELIEVE WHEN IT IS BEYOND REASON TO BELIEVE. Weve got excellent doctors. Excellent support. A team of people who are known nation/world wide for treating Neuroblastoma so were in on the good team. Ive started referring to Chemo as Chemo-Sabe... or friend. IN the past Ive thought chemo to be poison and now I see it as our friend whos doing the best it can to wax this outta Lucass system. So, hi-5 to Chemo-sabe... do your job and well do ours. God is most certainly doing his by keeping us strong and holding Lucas in his arms and showing us his army with all of your prayers and love and energy. Thank you again for your prayers, support, love, guidance, and heart. All your love is felt by our whole family. Thank you for lifting us up when we are down. Thank you for soaring with us when we are up. Thank you for reading our updates and offering even the slightest comments... I love reading your comments and well wishes. I give you all my love right back at-cha... xoxo red
