LUCKY ESCAPE WITH CARS CATCHING FIRE ON THURSDAY NIGHT- with the Hawkesbury SES rescue team responding to a fiery crash on Gorricks Lane At Freemans Reach (near Kurmond Road). Fortunately, all occupants were out of their vehicles when our first resources arrived on-scene. The team then provided lighting for the Rural Fire Service to extinguish the fire and assisted the towing company to recover the cars up a steep embankment. SATURDAY (yesterday) we were called to a bird caught in a slow combustion stove chimney. To avoid major damage the residents arranged for the company that installed the stove to come and dismantle the stove and chimney. LEARNING FROM PREVIOUS OPERATIONS - Following the rescue of the two bushwalkers from Mailles Ridge by Polair 1 last weekend, our search team ran a desktop exercise on Wednesday Night using the same details as this job to plan a rescue operation - assuming no helicopter support was available. TODAY two of our members walked to this location from the Colo Meroo camping ground to evaluate the feasibility and timing to access and perform a land-based rescue.
