LUKWAGO SAGA: THE REAL BATTLE BEGINS NOW Dear All, Todays - TopicsExpress

LUKWAGO SAGA: THE REAL BATTLE BEGINS NOW Dear All, Todays court ruling in favour of stay of execution of the tribunal report was a welcome sigh to the Muslim community in general and to those who voted Lukwago despite all odds in the last elections. Monday had also been a happy day for some people as well. But they were not brave enough to celebrate beyond the precincts of City Hall. Today Kampala went to a standstill. The Muslim community has remained remained resolute throughout. The Khutbas of last Friday were unambiguous - we shall not take this lying down and we know whom Jennifer Musisi is serving. We know where part of the the money to bribe councillors is coming from. The Muslim community counted more on their non Muslim friends across the divide who are not few anyway, to reign in on the few that are bent on ensuring that Muslims in Uganda never attain any meaningful influence. Out of ten Directors at KCCA, (persons with no special skills by the way - just graduates of sorts) - none is a Muslim. This in a city that voted a Muslim Woman (Nabilah) for Woman MP, Muslim Man (Nsereko) for MP and another Muslim Man (Lukwago) for Lord Mayor. Something is just not right. Back to the days events, my sense is that this could be temporary relief. The real battle that will shape the future of the Muslim community and Uganda is just beginning. All the essential ingredients of power play are visible in the Lukwago Saga. *Muscle:* the guns are out. We saw some on Monday. But that is a tip of the iceberg. More are coming. The Kibokos, went out too. *Money:* The money flowed since the tribunal days and continues to flow. The good councillors who voted Lukwago out are a happy lot (as they have been able to pay much of their bills of late), we hear. Only Allah knows. *Mind:* The battle of the mind (psychological warfare) best played out in the media has been intense and will intensify. Yesterday we saw the Electoral Commission spokesperson getting ready to announce the date for a by election. *Class:* The down trodden have stood firm with Lukwago - Christians, Traditionalists Luos, Banyankole, Bagisu, Bateso, baganda... all said no to the elite capitalists who believe the poor have no place in Kampala. As Lukwago was being impeached, they remembered KCCA Director Agaba who ordered the shooting of innocent landless people in Kitintale. *Ethnicity: *all the four councillors who were hurriedly sworn in on to ensure Lukwago impeached, speak a common dialect - the same dialect that the Minister who presided over the fiasco speaks. *Politics:* The opposition has kept its eye on the ball, since the tribunal days. They deployed all their best brains. The NRM deployed its best dirty fighters. *Religion:* The religious factor is playing out loud. Jeniffer Musisi is firm in her pursuit of the Evangelists agenda to rule Uganda - the whole of it - not just Kampala- at whatever cost. In the process she must use Muslims at the front line against a fellow Muslim. The Magistrate in the case is Yasin (Nyanzi) a Muslim as well. Fairly strange but who is complaining anyway?. The Muslims see the whole plot and are not ready to play super nationalist and pretend that religion does not matter in Ugandas politics. Oh yes it does and matters that much. The Muslim community has known that even when they own theirs, like they did with Hajji Erias (Elias) Lukwago, the justice loving non-Muslims stand by them. Deep down they know that it will most likely be a Muslim, who by fabric cannot fear another human being on earth, who will save Uganda from the state of injustice and hopelessness she has sank to. And no one ever will be able to stop any Muslim from putting their foot forward to confront injustice even when they do so with ISLAM written across their foreheads. This where the real battle begins. And it begins now. Wa billahi Tawfiq .. omar d kalinge-nnyago +256 703 851 851
