LUNSAR DECENDANTS ABROAD PROVIDE WET FEEDING FOR EBOLA VICTIMS By Hassan Bruz Northern Bureau Chief Hundreds of people in about a dozen communities in the Marampa Chiefdom have benefited from a consignment of relief items. The items which included bags of rice and other ingredients were part of a consignment of wet feeding that was provided by the North American Branch of the descendants of Marampa Chiefdom in the United States of America. The funds for the package were handed over to the Marampa Chiefdom Health Committee for onward delivery to the affected communities. Paramount Chief Koblo Queen is the Chairman of the Marampa Chiefdom Health Committee. He viewed this as a great and timely venture which can go a long way in complementing the efforts of the Government of Ernest Bai Koroma in the fight against Ebola. He said even though there were a lot of conflicting versions on the issue of Ebola, the fact remains that it is a killer disease with no known cure. He spoke on the series of Community Sensitisations and other efforts the Chiefdom Health Committee has been doing to control and stop the spread of the virus in the Chiefdom. The Paramount Chief said he was personally involved and made physical presence to address his Subjects in almost all the Sections in the just concluded sensitisation campaign in the Chiefdom. He said even though it has greatly improved on the level of awareness of his People, yet there were a number of challenges at hand. The Paramount Chief cited some ugly developments with reference to what he referred to as unpatriotic individuals who had earlier violated his authority by participating in the burial of an Ebola suspected corpse. He went further to narrate the deliberate attempt by some ill meaning persons that seemed to have connived with the District Surveillance Team to create the unsubstantiated impression that his wife was an Ebola suspect. The version of the Paramount Chief was buttressed by the Vice Chairman- Thomas Santigie Kamara and the Coordinator who is also the Treasurer of the Marampa Health Committee- Paul Santigie Sesay. They observed how that defiance move to have buried that Ebola Suspected Corpse has continued to wreck disaster in their beloved Chiefdom. They said everybody is now at risk of being infected until a concerted effort is made to fight the menace. The Coordinator and Treasurer of the Marampa Health Committee explained how this has even led to a series of deaths and the subsequent quarantined of several households. He cited Dumper Lane, Bonor Street, Labour Compound, Bai Rampa Road, New Spain, Father Street Magbil Village St. John of God Catholic Hospital and several other places have now been quarantined while many more homes stand the risk to undergo the prescribed period of 21 Days if the spread of the Virus is not nabbed. While explaining the timeliness of the package from their brothers and Sisters in the Diaspora, Paul Santigie Sesay gave a vivid picture of the trying times the Chiefdom is experiencing with the apparent scaling down of Iron Ore Mining Activities as Ebola continues to reach out to more Homes. He said the situation is far more difficult for those in Quarantined homes as they were now conditioned to stay within and not to go beyond the Premises of their Compounds. He said the Package would therefore go a long way in salvaging the plight of the Inhabitants of such Homes in the Chiefdom. He noted that there were about 12 Ebola Quarantined Homes with nearly 150 affected persons in the Township of Lunsar alone. He said this was as a result of what he referred to as primitive believes and sustained denials. Paul Santigie Sesay however expressed profound thanks and appreciation to the North American Branch of the Descendants of Lunsar in the United States of America and encouraged others to emulate such classic examples. Abdul O Turay, Alhajie Conteh, Ahmed Osman Kanu and Abass A Koroma who formed part of the membership of the Chiefdom Health Committee, ensured that the gifts were delivered to the targeted groups. In their brief remarks to the Beneficiaries in the respective localities, they re-echoed the fact that the package was with funds from their brothers and sisters in the Diaspora. They singled out the President - Hunter Conteh, his Vice President – Abdul Kanu , the Secretary- Hassan Kamara and Alpha Sesay – Organising Secretary of the Lunsar Descendants Branch in North America, as the brain behind this priceless offer. On behalf of the Chiefdom Health Committee and those in the Diaspora, they conveyed heartfelt concerns over the crucial constraints they were all exposed to as a result of the Ebola Virus adding that the disease has claimed quite a good number of lives in Marampa .The Chiefdom Health Committee Members said even though there has been high figures of probable and suspected Ebola cases, yet they were relieved by the fact that a large number has also survived the disease. They concluded with an appeal for compliance to the prescribed Laws on Ebola. Meanwhile, Idissa Sumah – one of those that have survived the disease in Lunsar has praised the efforts of all those that have contributed in salvaging his life. He has just returned from the Kenema Treatment Centre with Ebola Free Certificate. He endorsed the fact that Ebola is a real killer disease that can be better survived with early treatment. Idrissa Conteh is an employee of Cape Lambert –one of the mining companies in Lunsar. He got infected with the Virus but denied and attributed it to a witch gun shot. He then smuggled himself to Tonko Limba Chiefdom in the Kambia District for traditional treatment. He ran out of luck as he was fished out and subsequently conveyed to Kenema for treatment. As you can see in one of the Photos below, he is the man behind the spectacles and has now rejoined his family......
