Labour [Al-Ijârah] It is permissible to put any job, that has been prohibited in the Sharî’ah, out for rent. The wages must be well stated at the time of entering into the labour agreement. If there is no well-stated agreement, the labourer will be entitled to the worth of his labour as known with people of that labour. There is a prohibition regarding earning from blood-cupping (Al-Hijâmah), prostitution, soothsaying, arranged insemination (of animals), calling people to prayers, taking wheat after milling a load of wheat for a person. It is permissible to take wages for reciting the Qur’ân but not permissible to take wages for teaching it. It is also permissible to lease one’s pond for a period of time over a well stated rent, so also is land, but it should not be upon the condition of what comes out of it. Whoever destroys what he has been employed to look after or destroys what he rents must pay for it.
