Labour Party denies endorsing any candidate THE Ogun State chapter of the Labour Party (LP), has said it has not picked any governorship candidate from any zone in the state in the 2015 gubernatorial elections. This was against a report widely circulated in the media that the leadership of the party, at a meeting held in Ilaro, some weeks back, unanimously endorsed the former Group Managing Director of the Gateway Holding Limited, Mr. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka (GNI), as the gubernatorial candidate of the party. Disclosing this on Friday was the state chairman of the party, Comrade Simeon Olabode, while addressing party faithfuls from Ogun Central Senatorial District, at the party’s secretariat in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital. He said that the party leadership would not do things that were not stipulated in it’s constitution. He said, “Let me say categorically that the party leadership here in Ogun state have not pick any guber candidate for the 2015 polls and will not do so without adhering to the party’s constitution.” Olabode said the party constitution was silent on the zoning formula, adding that the power to nominate an aspirant to the office of the Governor rest solely with the state congress. He, therefore, called on indigenes of the state, particularly politicians, who are aspiring to any elective positions in the state, to join the party.
