Labour Weekend - Saturday Update: The treatment for Anges brain - TopicsExpress

Labour Weekend - Saturday Update: The treatment for Anges brain bleed is to make sure she has plenty of platelets (the sticky part of the blood that stops you bleeding), put her on some tablets that assist with the clotting, have daily blood tests to monitor levels and have a check up with the doc who tests neuro functions, making sure the brain is still working OK. So today the Sunkels trudged back up to Hospital for a blood transfusion (well one of us did) and have a routine blood test. At the end of the blood transfusion, they said Ange needs platelets, so after a lot of to-ing and fro-ing, the girl gets two units of platelets and we head home. Seems pretty simple huh? Well, after leaving home at about 11:00 am, we arrived home sometime after 5:00 pm. The hospital staff really do do an excellent job and the nurses who have all come to know us cant do enough - we have some genuine love for them. But still, it was a lot of sitting around inside, doing nothing but looking out to a clear blue sky. Oh well, were home now and everyone gets to sleep in their own bed. Were feeling lucky that the specialist has agreed to monitor Ange as an outpatient, as time at home is very precious. Mrs Sunkels head is still pretty sore due to the pressure in there, but it is being managed with top notch pain relief and we hope it will get better over the next few days. Incidentally, the cough has almost completely gone, probably meaning the tail end of pneumonia! Trust you are all enjoying the sunshine wherever you are, and if you are in NZ, we hope you take the time to cherish the long weekend with friends and family! Thanks as always for your support - please keep it up and continue sharing our journey! Team Ange xx
