Lackawanna Police Chief Under Fire for Alleged Overpayment: Ok, - TopicsExpress

Lackawanna Police Chief Under Fire for Alleged Overpayment: Ok, so I read this article in the Front Page/South Buffalo News, and now I am confused. According to the article, the current Lackawanna public safety director was specifically asked whether he would seek return of the funds if, in fact, Lackawanna Police Chief James Michel was overpaid for four years beginning in 2009. His response has me scratching my head, and frankly irritated beyond belief. He responded with: Thats not my decision. I will consult with appropriate department heads to see what action is appropriate as far as recalling any funds that were inappropriately paid to the chief of police. So, are we to understand that the oversight of this issue rests with DEPARTMENT HEADS? Why is the City Council not the governing authority when it comes to answering this question. It seems to me that they vote on appropriation of funds as it relates to City finances, not department heads. It is this taxpayers opinion that it would be ridiculous to assert that this issue be handed to any department head to oversee. Department heads are not the ombudsman when it comes to financial oversight. Hopefully this will be taken care of by the APPROPRIATE governing body and resolved so that the taxpayers take comfort that there are, indeed, advocates for them in our city government. Louis Croce
