Ladies: Juan Roman Riquelme retired yesterday. His name almost certainly means nothing to you, but at one time, roughly a decade ago, he was in the discussion whenever the finest players in the world were discussed. He has been described as the last of the true Number 10s (a central midfielder responsible for pulling all the strings for his team.) The article I just read described him as the last pure playmaker. He was relatively big, strong, gifted on the ball, possessed of phenomenal vision and field sense, and justifiably famed for his penetrating passes and his free kick prowess. He was flawed, in that at times he didnt commit to playing defense, he was strongly right-foot dominant, and he lacked elite speed. But, even with those flaws, he was a joy to watch. He played professional soccer from age 18 to age 36, and at the highest levels, including 51 times for the Argentine Mens National Team (including in the 2006 World Cup). Enjoy the video Ive attached and, if intrigued, go find other videos of him on Youtube. Coach https://youtube/watch?v=gyXTNdpk4j8#t=10
