Ladies Match Report vs Glasgow: So this week it was time for NUBC ladies to head up north to the freezing cold tartan palace that is Glasgow. The girls were lucky enough to inside the Emirates Arena, which is joined onto the Chris Hoy velodrome (possibly the only male to have thighs bigger than Alvin’s measuring a whopping 27 inches). After various selfies inside the arena it was time for some serious badders - this week was cup match week so the pressure was on! Glasgow’s second singles player had a shocker of a day and lost ALL of her sets 21-0. The poor girl shouldn’t have bothered turning up… The first proper match of the day was NUBC ladies second singles vs Glasgow first singles. Cara’s opponent needed a trip to Specsavers as she struggled to keep the shuttle in-between the lines, but her determination got the better of Cara who gained 16 points in the first set and 14 in the second. Think Cara got too excited to be breathing Scottish air again, silly fresher. Next up was NUBC ladies second doubles vs Glasgow first doubles. This week we had the return of an injury stricken member of squad, fingers crossed she wouldn’t pick up any more sprains. She and Beth played fantastically winning the first set 18 and the second 14. Our returning player really does insist on being on top. We then moved onto NUBC ladies first doubles vs Glasgow second doubles. Tash and Anna did us proud with some epic smashes and sneaky drop shots. They won the first set 21-19 and the second 21-15, nice work gals. Then it was time for some proper singles, none of this 21-0 rubbish, even the polys manage to get some points. Katie Allen took to the court for NUBC ladies first singles vs Glasgow first singles. Katie has been rather ill all week so it was going to be a tough game for our Allen. She did really well in the first set gaining 16 points, but then couldn’t breathe in the second so had to take it easy, gaining 6 points. Katie then decided to spread her disease that evening onto crazy Michael, how tactless. Time for some more doubles with NUBC ladies first doubles vs Glasgow second doubles. Despite classic Anna deciding to play every backhand shot that came her way (shocker) her and Tash rose to victory with ease winning the first set 21-10 and the second 21-5. Captain’s rules state for every unnecessary backhand, 5 burpies shall be done, get cracking Bradshaw see you in the New Year. The last game of the day was NUBC ladies second doubles vs Glasgow second doubles. In true Vickerman style Beth ran round the court like a chicken, sweating more than Rupert Murdoch’s ink supplier. The girls fought hard winning both sets 21-14 without any injuries YAY. The NUBC ladies were victorious over Glasgow with a massive 6-2 win, GET IN THERE. We are now in the top 16 teams for the trophy, a great achievement!
