Ladies Soccer 5-a-side Blitz 24/08/2013 A full complement of seven teams began their 2 group stage, in this one-day Blitz. Some new faces and some old gathered together to do battle for a Cup Prize and a spot at the Aviva Stadium this October. Group 1 action consisted of three teams Lucan Ladies, Kilmore Ladies and newcomers Bora. Group 2 featured St. Paul’s, Dollies, Shelbourne LFC and Ayrfield. Running simultaneous with their Group 2 counterparts Lucan Ladies took on experienced vets Kilmore in an exciting start to the Tournament. Kilmore were keen to stamp their mark early-on with a 4-0 score line. Dollies in group 2 began their goal tally with a 2-0 win over St. Paul’s. The group stage action continued as follows. Group 1 Group 2 Lucan 1, Bora 1. Shel’s 1, Ayrfield 4 Kilmore 2, Bora 1. St. Paul’s 0, Shel’s 7 Lucan 0, Kilmore 5. Dollies 1, Ayrfield 0 Lucan 1, Bora 4. St. Paul’s 1, Ayrfield 2. Kilmore 2, Bora 1. Semi-Finals Round The competition heats up now as Group 1 winners Kilmore Ladies take on Group 2 Runners Up Ayrfield in a relaxed paced game which saw good marking from players Nicole Brady & Eucharia McDermot to their Ayrfield counterpart pairings of Elaine Fitzsimmons & Emer Keaveney. Senior Referee Dermot O’Shea paid special Compliment to Kilmore Ladies Goalkeeper stating, ‘’She kept her cool with some strong shots raining in at the goal mouth. A quick and very alert player!’’ Alas, Ayrfield’s luck ran out in the closing stages as they were eliminated from the knock-out round, but not before wearing down some stiff competition… Group 2 Winners Shelbourne LFC took on Bora for their leg in the knockouts. Shel’s team Captain Caolan Lynch Led her side to an impressive victory over the newcomers Bora. Lots of fast paced action in this, particularly from the left-wing play of Bora players Vanessa Da Silva Moreira Neves & Milena Shikasho, who, at times posed a strong threat to the advancement of Shel’s in this stage of the tournament. Ultimately Shel’s were not to be written off so quickly as they went on full offensive in the closing stage to advance to the Cup Final against Kilmore Ladies. Cup Final: Kilmore Ladies Vs. Shelbourne LFC It’s all to play for in this final round. The rain had been kept at bay for a short time, but much to the relief of over-heated players came down for the Final. A strong battle of wills this, neither side wanting to lose all at the last hurdle. Kilmore’s Ciara Smith managed to stabilise her side against a strong offensive from the Shelbourne duo of Shauna O’Neill & Erica Cahill who rained in shots from the Kilmore defence. In the end, a strong showing from Kilmore, but the day and Cup went to winners Shelbourne LFC!
