Ladies and Gentlebears - its FUTURE CLASSIC FRIDAY again! Autobear proudly presents (and I swear I never thought Id recomment a GERMAN car!) the 1989-1999 BMW 840/850 E 31. This automobile is hopelessly underrated and underappreciated - but its qualities is a summary of everything great BMW ever stood for. It was outstanding in design (with clean, muscular lines and a beautiful Hardtop roof), it was superb in quality and driving performance, it was innovative (active rear-wheel steering for the 850 CSI), elegant, sophisticated and sporty. Powerplants (V8 with 286 hp, V12 with 299-326 hp) were strong and reliable, although the clientel expected more power for the money. The E31 was the priciest BMW ever til its discontinuation in 1999 and hit the market during the early 90s recession - a bad time for luxurious performance cars. Despite its huge popularity, only 30.000 cars were made. The E31 is way better than its reputation, its relatively low production number and excellent qualities will make it desirable in the future for sure - because the E31 is probably the last great looking full size coupe with classic BMW values ever.
