Ladies and gentlemen, veterans of the Second World War of 1939-1945, immediate families, relatives, children and grandchildren of the veterans and fallen of the Second World War, and all the people of the free world, especially to those serving in uniform as part of the uniformed services from all the combatant Allied countries today, 75 years ago on this day Danzig, Poland became a city under Nazi German adminstration in the midst of the beginning of the Second World War in Europe. And 69 years ago today the formal end of the Second World War was finally reached when on this very day, on the USS Missouri (BB-69) off Tokyo, representatives of the armed forces, government and people of Imperial Japan signed the document of the terms of surrender in the presence of leading Allied military and civil leaders, formally ending six years of war that took so many lives, destroyed so many infastructure and public parks, and forever changed the world. And it was on this very day that Ho Chin Minh read out in Hanoi the formal declaration of the restoration of Vietnamese independence after years of Japanese and French rule, therefore being established as a republic. So many died in this great conflict from both sides, either as military personnel, militia personnel, or civilians. So many survived to see the final victory over the Axis being achieved in Europe on May 8 and 9, 1945 and on the Pacific on this very day. At a high cost, the Allied ended the plans of Axis leaders to dominate our world. And thus, we who live today must never forget the sacrifices the Greatest Generation had done to ensure the survival of humanity and the spirits of liberty and freedom so that we can live our today preparing to stand for our tomorrow for the values that are truly worth defending. In all the works paying tribute to the heroes that won the war and gave us our today, including the men of Easy Company 2-506/3BCT/101ABDN/18AC, and the men of the 1st, 5th and 7th Marine Regiments of the 1st Marine Division, we honor their endless determination, courage and strength to fight the evils of the world at all costs, and thus draw our inspiration from their experience in order that whenever we face trials, we turn to them for guidance in order that we can come out of them stronger than ever before. For we must never forget their service to the peoples of the counrties they served and the freedom they fought against fascism and imperialism at the cost of their lives! To all the veterans and survivors of the Second World War, and to all who serve today in the uniformed services of all the victorious Allies, my dearest greetings to all of you as we all mark the 69th year of the end of the Second World War and of the victory over Japan.
