Ladies and gents, On November 1st, NJ State Division of Fire and Safety will be hosting a interesting large scale drill water supply and deployment exercise in TRENTON city Nj, a highly urbanized busy (with fires) city will simulate a water emergency, which subsequently will eliminate hydrant use. A simulated warehouse fire will require a flow rate of 3000gpm which must be achieved via tanker/tender operations. The SEND THE WATER staff will be heavily involved in almost every component of this exercise, including but not limited to, supervising the water shuttle ops, calculation of friction loss and flow rates, logistics, etc. The IAP involves deploying 27-30 tender/tenders, 20+ engines, and multiple towers from 7 counties in NJ and Pa. Two water supply drop tank points will utilized to transition the static water source to pressure. Over 6 active fill sites will be placed inservice, using creeks and canals through the cities streets to draft its water source. It will be a very interesting and realistic scenario, as this type of water emergency issue occurs throughout every large city in the US. This exercise is designed to educate each and every fire protection district, no matter urban or rural, on the deployment/ resource management required, in addition to what and how many resources would be required to produce appropriate water flow rates. Any visiting firefighter can learn the how and whys of these type of ops. A full scale type 4 IMT will be utilized. Any of you think outside the box type of firefighters are highly encouraged to come and observe the drill. Arrangements have been made for this to occur. DETAILS TO FOLLOW!!
