Lalla: Clean sweep for ILP The Independent Liberal Party (ILP) will be sweeping the October 21 local government elections, says the party’s St Joseph by-election candidate Om Lalla. Speaking at a public meeting in Debe on Thursday night, Lalla said both the People’s Partnership and the People’s National Movement (PNM) will be defeated. “This is going to be a clean sweep on the 21st like the country has never seen, if you think what you saw in 2010 was licks, this is going to be licks like never seen before because both the PNM and the People’s Partnership are going to get licks from the ILP,” he said. Lalla also came to ILP deputy leader Anna Deonarine’s defence over the controversy with respect to a stolen Range Rover she had purchased, questioning why the Government was not dealing with the issues in the country. “There are hundreds of illegal cars that come into this country that are stolen, imposed on people and very often the police seize these cars, they put them in compounds for years and nothing is dealt with, but yet the Government does nothing to address this. “Anna Deonarine was a victim as so many hundreds of people are in this country, but instead of dealing with that and telling you what their policy is, what their plan is to deal with people who are victims in this country, they don’t care about that, all they care about is getting cheap points on the political platform,” he added. The Fraud Squad, he said, was undermanned and lacking resources, yet nothing was done to remedy this problem. “We have an Attorney General who is playing Commissioner of Police, who’s taking away the role of the DPP, the role of the Commissioner Police, the role of the Security Minister, but yet they not telling you what they going to do to empower you,” said Lalla. He said the people must vote out both opposing parties to the ILP on October 21 and change the political course of the country. Lalla said when a Government reaches the state where they have to intimidate and be rude to the people it is a sign of betrayal. “No matter what they do there is a bitter taste in the mouths of everybody in Trinidad and Tobago and this country in an unprecedented three months has gone green,” he said.
