Largest in the country The Vizhinjam international seaport will have the deepest draft in the country and it will be able to berth mega vessels of 18,000TEU capacity. These vessels would require minimum water depths of 18m and no other ports in the country have this depth. The first vessels of 18,000 TEU will be out only in 2014. The Port would have a total quay length of 2000 meters in three phases. The first phase of the project will include an 800-metre-long berth with a breakwater area of 3,180 metres and an adjoining 500-metre-long container yard. The port will also have a 500 metres berth for Cruise terminal, 120 metres for Coast Guard wharf and 500 metres of Navy wharf.
