Larry Dale Spears Posted: March 13, 2014 - 12:00am Larry Dale Spears Larry Dale Spears, 67, of Amarillo passed away in his home Friday, March 7, 2014. He was the only son of L.D. and Inez Spears, who preceded him in death. After graduating from Dumas High School, Larry studied journalism at the University of Oklahoma and the University of Texas, Austin. Larry served as sports editor of the Waterloo Courier and then slot editor at the San Jose Mercury News before rising to become Managing Editor of both The Los Angeles Times Syndicate and The Orange Coast Daily Pilot in Newport Beach, California. He shifted his full-time attention to the financial sector in 1984. A talented writer, editor, consultant and technical analyst of financial markets and investment products for major media outlets for over 30 years, Larry contributed incredible insight, strategies and recommendations for small investors that helped make many national publications, newsletters and websites the go-to source for high-quality information. An active investor and options trader himself, Larry authored several books on the subject. Larry loved sports, especially anything to do with “his” Oklahoma Sooners, and he relished any opportunity to visit Las Vegas during Super Bowl and March Madness. Larry is survived by several cousins, countless friends and his beloved dogs, Terra and Butterscotch. He will always be remembered for his gentle soul and his “big as Texas” heart. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Amarillo-Panhandle Humane Society, the SPCA or Critter Camp Rescue/Amarillo. Services are pending at this time. Amarillo Globe-News, March 13, 2014
