Larrys Inexplicable Birthday Thoughts of the Day : As this space cadet completes his 57th orbit around the sun, he realizes that he is about 6 months older than the space age itself, since the first thing man shot into space was in the fall of 1957. He realizes that so far, he has survived the Cuban Missile Crisis, The Cold War, Viet Nam, The Bush Administration,Disco, reality tv and himself.He then also realizes that he has a greater understanding and appreciation of the words of Mickey Mantle who famously said If I knew I was going to live this long, I would have taken much better care of myself . Of course all orbits decay with time, and as this space cadet awaits re-entry and to be re-transformed to the stardust from whence he came, he attempts to enlighten and amuse himself by filling his mind with everything from the profound to the absurd . He is more accutley aware of words like mortality , but accepts the ultimate reality of the destination of the orbit in decay.He gazes into the inquisitive and innocent eyes of his granddaughters and gains senses of nostalgia and purpose; as well as a real desire to complete as many more orbits as possible.
