Last 7 September 2013, I organized and held a meeting with groups/individuals who were working on the present pork barrel scam issue. It was attended by a total of 8 persons representing various groups. We will continue this discussion. I will also place my summary and notes of the meeting this weekend. I wish to call for another meeting is with the following SPECIFIC GOALS – this means, please join us if you believe in what we want to do. GOALS: 1. to form a specific group that will organize to go to communities and work WITH THE SAID COMMUNITIES on the following points : a. a clear and balanced understanding of the pork barrel issue b. a balanced and open discussion of possible options as to the right use of the pork barrel funds with the clear goal of stopping corruption and c. the long term goal of lessening the inequalities among our people through the proper delivery of basic services (e.g. basic healthcare, quality basic education, decent housing, access to decent livelihood, food security). 2. to discuss and start the organizing of a movement that will go beyond the pork barrel scam issue and the drive to end corruption and work towards genuine freedom and democracy through: a. going back to our roots as a people b. retracing the fight for freedom and democracy: a. 1898 independence b. Post Spanish era c. World War II d. Post World War II e. Martial Law f. EDSA 1 g. Present day issues I AM A BELIEVER IN RECAPTURING OUR STORY AS A PEOPLE – as one of my close friends and compatriot puts it: “. . . This needs to be surfaced because it is the one enduring truth that goes beyond the Marcoses and the Aquinos - that we need to become a nation of laws, where the rule of law is the bedrock, where the aspirations and ideals expressed in the constitution are sacrosanct - any violation of which will be met with swift retribution by law and failing which - by our lives. “Great countries are born by sacrifice, sweat and blood in upholding the rule of law - and only then sustained by compassion, prayers and forgiveness. We have put the cart before the horse and until we realize that, we are doomed to repeat our mistakes again and again.” Our tradition prior to Marcos/Martial Law and the periods after did show our potential to be a great nation. We need to retrace the story and set it right again. I agree, unless we take the pains to do this, we “are doomed to repeat our mistakes again and again.” WE MUST BALANCE NEEDED ACTION NOW AND A LONG TERM ROAD TO REAL TRANSFORMATION AND NATION BUILDING. COME AND JOIN US IF YOU BELIEVE IN THIS WAY. We will continue to work with others, but this is a track and movement I have been wanting to start for years now. Maybe it is time.
