Last Friday, Rob Crain and I concluded a week long wrongful death - TopicsExpress

Last Friday, Rob Crain and I concluded a week long wrongful death jury trial in Federal District Court in Dallas. We represented the family of a tow truck operator who was run over and killed while working on the shoulder of Interstate 30 by the inattentive driver of a semi. The trucking company offered to settle the case for a paltry $50,000. That was their take it or leave it offer. We refused their offer and decided to let a jury figure it out. We asked the jury to hold the truck driver and his company accountable for causing the death of our client. They did. After 5 days of trial, 14 witnesses and 5 hours of deliberation, the jury of 3 men and 5 women found the Defendants 100% responsible for the death and awarded $6,193,000 to our clients. We are fully aware that money can never bring back a loved one whose life was tragically taken far too soon. But, verdicts like this can serve to give closure to the kids, the parents and the widow of the deceased. And, it can provide some much needed accountability to the Defendants. Verdicts like this deliver a powerful message that when someone makes a mistake and causes a horrific tragedy, how its handled makes all the difference in the world. The Defendants refused to accept responsibility on their own, so the jury handled that for them. Thats what justice is all about.
