Last Friday, Shelly and I did something that I never thought would - TopicsExpress

Last Friday, Shelly and I did something that I never thought would be possible in PA, we got married. I have known Shelly literally all of her life, she watched many of my softball games 40 years ago, but if anyone had told me then, that we would end up together someday, I would have had them committed...lol My mom always told me that everything happens for a reason, and I tell my kids that there are NO accidents, so in my heart I know this was meant to be. We picked the date because it was Shellys Dads birthday, and we had a beautiful ceremony performed by our dear friend District Magistrate Joanne Corbett, who made it very special. We were surrounded by the people closest to us, then we had a nice dinner and came back to the house to hang out. On Sat morning Nick, Beans and the kids left to go to a swimming party in Philly. And we had plans for a long time before we ever planned the wedding, to go to Phil and Julies in Bethlehem for the weekend, so we still went. When we pulled up to Phils house, Cabrinas car was there, and Tonys car was there, and there was a big sign in the yard that Tony had made for us. We were blown away that the kids all came to Phils to hang out with us for the weekend. It was the first time in like 9 years that we have all been together under one roof for more than 12 hours, and it was so nice. Phil infused vodka with jalapenos for Shellys VERY spicy and delicious Bloody Marys that Mike made for her. And my signature drink was an Orange Crush and they were awesome. There was champagne on ice in the bedroom, a towel rolled in the shape of a heart with a beautiful magnet in it, a beautiful card from Beans, Nick and the kids, and a sign for 24 hour room service that Jules made, and so kindly put Phils cell phone to call anytime day or night...but we didnt take him up on it...lol. There were lots of snacks, gourmet pizzas, and then we made homemade pasta at like 11 PM and ate it with Phils delicious sauce that had been cooking for 12 hours. And the next day we went to Julies parents house to swim, but they were on vacation, (we missed you Sue and Mark). It was a beautiful weekend and thanks so much guys for taking the time to share it with us, it meant the world to us. I am at the point in my life where I want to surround myself with people that are kind, compassionate and non judgmental. Did that mean that I had to get hurt by finding out that some people were not who I thought they were, absolutely. But that is ok too, because I now always try to remember a quote from Maya Angelou, When people show you who they are...BELIEVE them And then she asks, Why are you blaming them, they showed you who they were the first time! So I have learned to heed that advice. I have been truly blessed with 3 beautiful children, 3 priceless little grandchildren, a sister and brother in law who have always supported me, as well as many loving extended family members, and wonderful friends. To complete that blessing, I have found the person that compliments my life in so many ways, and as a bonus, she came with many more loving family members that we love dearly. So even though Shelly never comes on FB, I wanted to thank her in front of our family and friends, for coming into my life and making me the happiest I have ever been....now...LEGALLY...lol (And I can see my kids rolling their eyes when they see how long this post is, but sorry guys, it had to be said.) So I will leave you with a post I saw on Cabrinas page a few weeks back, it is part of John Legends commencement speech at U of Penn and it says it all.... Dare to love those who are different from you, no matter where theyre from, what they look like, and who they love. Pursue this life of love with focus and passion and ambition and courage. Give it your all. And that will be your path to true success. Thanks again everyone.
