Last Friday, a severely disturbed veteran jumped the fence, ran - TopicsExpress

Last Friday, a severely disturbed veteran jumped the fence, ran across the lawn, entered the main door and entered the White House. Despite being tracked on surveillance video, he made it all the way to the Obama residence. (The President had just left for Camp David and was never in real danger.) Imagine that happening in 2004. It’s inconceivable. He’d never have made it across the lawn. So how did it happen in 2014? The White House is guarded by a unique police force called the Uniformed Division (U.D.). Amongst its many duties, the U.D. operates counter-sniper teams, the motorcade support unit, canine and EOD divisions and an Emergency Response Team at the White House. The U.D. consists of 1,300 police officers and technicians. While the Secret Service is responsible for the President and his family, these guys defend the White House. Until Friday. On Friday they let a man run across the President’s lawn and right up to his quarters. Was this a message? Are they letting him know who is really in charge? And if they werent, how can we trust the President to protect us if he can’t even secure his own house?
