Last Male Lion, Nakawa, of Liuwa, Killed, ZAMBIA - Liuwa Plain - TopicsExpress

Last Male Lion, Nakawa, of Liuwa, Killed, ZAMBIA - Liuwa Plain National Park came to the worlds focus when it was revealed that one lone Lioness, named Lady Liuwa, had watched her entire family killed by poachers, and lived alone for 9 years, calling for lions that would never answer. In 2009, 2 male lions were introduced, Nakawa was one of them. After no success of Lady Liuwa producing any cubs, 2 more females were introduced. in 2012 Tragedy struck with one male lion and one of the female lions were killed in poaching snares. Nakawa was the only male left. He was found dead and there is high suspicion that he was poisoned. Prior to Nakawas death, he was able to mate with the other Lioness (not lady Liuwa) and produced 3 cubs in January. He was a father for 8 months. In this part of the world, there is little education, and there is resistance to the reintroduction of more lions. It is a tragic situation . Lady Liuwa, the 2nd female (unsure of her name atm) and her 3 cubs, are all that is left now. The reintroduction of another male will take up to 1 year as male lions tend to kill cubs they dont sire. This is utterly tragic. RIP dear Nakawa xoxoxo Stay strong Lady Liuwa and the others. xoxo takepart/article/2014/09/24/lion-king-assassinated
