Last November, I started taking business classes to develop a plan for a non-profit dream called, Colorado Young Leaders. Diane L. Evans introduced to me to all these wonderful opportunities to build my entrepreneurial skill. November 24th, 2013 Bill Miller, Lisa, Kristy Miller, and Kaylie Lynn Miller believed in the mission, and we incorporated CYL as a non-profit in Colorado. By the end of December, we had a founding Board of Directors, that I am thankful for everyday: Mary, Jeff, Tammy, Sandy, Karl, Andrea Fitch, Lisa, and Adam David Henrichs. Lindsey Strickler & Daniel Fickle helped build us a website and create our branding. Some awesome students, Katherine Addy, Alec, Appu, Katie Bradbury, Bekah Inman, Kavan Ossentjuk, and Logan believed in our first SERVICE ADVENTURE with the National Sports Center for the Disabled on the slopes for our winter break. Since the beginning of 2014, we have been meeting as a community, learning about leadership through the lens of service, community, and adventure. We served thousands of hours in our local community with non-profits like Colfax Community Network, NSCD, African Community Center of Denver, Adaptive Adventures, Keystone Adaptive Center, Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado, and many more awesome Colorado non-profit. We even took our first global trip to Peru; thank you BC Serna for capturing it on film. AND JUST YESTERDAY, we received a letter in the mail from the IRS declaring that the government has given us OFFICIAL 501c3 NON-PROFIT STATUS! Thank you to everyone who has been part of this story! Please tag yourself in this post if you are part of our team as a Young Leader, volunteer, or supporter. We couldnt have done this without, and WE WONT STOP CHANGING THE WORLD ONE HIGH SCHOOL LEADER AT A TIME ANYTIME SOON!
