Last October, I went round every shop in West Vale with a letter saying Le Tour is coming and that we should all get together and do something to celebrate it. Now, almost 10 months further on, the big day dawns and West Vale looks chuffing fabulous! So this is for the people who didnt immediately dismiss matters, the people who embraced Le Tour, the people who got enthusiastic and said we can do this. For everyone in our community who has made bunting, knitted jerseys, painted bikes and planted flowers. And to the young man who came on a litter pick a and collected a bag that was almost as big as himself. For the people who have organised street parties and everything else, I would just like to say a huge THANK YOU!!!! We get told that communities are dead and gone, that no one cares anymore. Well as Ive walked through West Vale and Greetland last night, I can safely say that doesnt apply here. I am genuinely stunned by the number of houses with flags, bunting and signs out. And another thank you to the people who joined and helped the Le tour committee. Thanks to all those who bought merchandise and made donations we have so far got a permanent engraved stone, we are getting a bike stand in Brig Royd car park. We have a piece of graffiti art that has been seen and liked around the world and weve still more exciting stuff to come. I know the tour will be going through several places today but they dont count. Today is West Vales day and everyone who lives in, works in, shops in or just plain cares about our village are the people whove achieved that. So once again, Thank You!! - feeling proud.
