Last Saturday promised to be a beautiful day, so I loaded the dogs - TopicsExpress

Last Saturday promised to be a beautiful day, so I loaded the dogs into the Jeep and headed out on the Seward Highway. My plan was to take the dogs for a run in the mountains above Girdwood. Along the way there were people ice skating on Potter Marsh. I debated about whether or not to stop and take photos, then decided it would be worth the effort even if it did cost me about an hour, so I turned around. It looked like so much fun being out there on the Marsh that I wished that I could join them, but I didn’t bring my skates,...or a step stool, or a snow shovel. Next time, I told myself. As I continued on down the road, the clouds moved in, but when it comes to the weather up here, you get what you get, so I didn’t intent to let that stop me because I was in the Jeep, which is the perfect vehicle for a trip like this, and rain or shine, the vistas are awesome. Then suddenly, with the turnoff in sight, the Jeep started making an alarming noise. Fortunately I was near a filling station, which was good, because there aren’t many filling stations along the Seward Highway. It turned out that a ring on one of the pistons broke. For those who don’t know, that meant I wasn’t going anywhere that day because the engine was shot. The good news was that my cell phone was in range, another lucky break, because a few miles down the road in either direction and it wouldn’t have been, and it was starting to rain. After I made the call, all I could do was wait for AAA to give me a tow back to Anchorage, my best laid plans down the drain. All in all, it was still a good day, just not the day I had planned. Aja and Mouse were disappointed when we had to head for home without that run, but Maxwell Edison, the chiweenie, thought it was pretty cool because he got to ride in the Jeep all by himself, towed by the biggest truck that he’d ever tried to bite. He was beside himself with joy. “Life is what happens to you while youre busy making other plans.” – Allen Saunders
