Last Saturday was a busy day for Victorville Environmental Programs. We covered two events: the Shred Fest at the MRF and the Route 66 event in Old Town Victorville. Between the two events, we gave away over 250 reusable grocery bags. There seems to be a trend toward plastic bag bans in CA. According to Californians Against Waste, ...in 2013 alone, at least 31 CA communities adopted single-use plastic bag ordinances, bringing the current total to 87 statewide. Now that LA City, the second largest city in the country, has adopted a bag ordinance, one-third of Californians will soon live in a community with an adopted bag ban... Shred Fest was a big success. We had over 250 vehicles come through for free shredding, free compost/mulch, free appliance/tv/computer drop off, and CRV buy back. Great to see everyone. Mark your calendar for 2014: Shred Fests will be held February 1st, May 3rd, August 2nd, and November 1st.
